Shelbronze Shetland Sheepdogs was first
registered in 1978 by my mum, Pamela Powell, but as long as
I can remember we always had a sheltie.

As a little girl we rescued a poor little
sheltie from the streets who obviously had had a litter of pups.
She was so skinny. We took her in and called her Lassie (of all
names ha!). She was a beautiful sable girl and looked so much
different once she was fed properly and living in a loving home.
She lived quite a long life but we never really knew exactly how
old she was.
When Lassie passed away mum then purchased
her first registered sheltie, a tricolour male from Shelbrae
kennels in NSW.
Shelbrae Kintyre CD CDX never became the
show dog we hoped for so mum gave him to me and Kinty and I
exceeded in the obedience ring winning several Novice and Open
classes and two High Score in Trials together.
Mum then brought in a beautiful golden
sable bitch, Ardvasar Janine (Nina) who was bred by the late
Scotty & Helen Clinton of Ardvasar Kennels.
Nina was a grand daughter of the top
producing UK sire, Eng & Aust Ch. Riverhill Rampion.
Mum bred along these lines for several
years with Nina being the foundation of our shelties. Nina can
be found behind most of our old sable lines today.
At this stage I was having a whole lot of
fun being successful in junior handlers. Winning many huge
classes, which in the 80’s some handlers classes could be 50
girls deep!
I qualified for the PAL finals twice in
Victoria and was short listed both times.
Later on I started to have a lot more to do
with the dogs myself and showing some of mum’s beautifully bred
dogs to many big wins at all breed and specialty level.
Our most famous have been our 2 magnificent
boys Ch. Shelbronze High Spirits (Ryan) and BIS Ch. Shelbronze
Jack Ohearts (Jack).
Mum always bred for correct breed type and
she was a stickler for soundness. She hates bad moving dogs and
her pet hate is a short upper arm or straight shoulder.
So with me ‘the apple doesn’t fall far from
the tree’, as they say.
When I moved out of home mum gave me two
sheltie’s in Ch. Shelbronze Heze My Guy (litter brother to S.
High Spirits) and BIS Ch. Shelbronze Jack Ohearts. Two boys who
are now waiting for me at ‘The Rainbow Bridge’ but will always
be very dear to my heart.
I actually bred my first litter in 1996 and
from that litter I bred my first champion,
Ch. Shelbronze Kwitya Bitchn (Zoe).
From that litter on I haven’t looked back
and have since bred 7 homebred champions and titled 4 bred by
others with several others close to their titles.
In the mid 90’s I became interested in the
judging side of dogs so applied for my aspiring judges license
for Group 5 in 1997, by 1999 I had passed my exams and became a
championship judge for the working group.
Since then I have gained my championship
licenses for groups 1 and 7.
I have had some super judging appointments
over the years especially in shelties. I have judged them in
Germany, Finland, New Zealand and all over Australia.
My dogs and my family live near Ballarat on
15 acres with beautiful scenery from our front verandah.

I look forward to breeding many more
healthy, happy and top quality shelties in the near future.
Please enjoy viewing my dogs through this
site and I am always happy to discuss shelties to anyone who is
interested in this beautiful breed.
